Hints of orange rind and blueberry while a splash of Petit Sirah provides spice, depth, and a lengthy finish. This wine showcases the graceful style and finesse of Dry Creek Zinfandel.

This wine will need time to open: decant or give it a good swirl, and let it awake.

    Production Notes

The 2005 vintage was a bit challenging for Zinfandel. While other varietals like Pinot Noir and Syrah benefited from the cool September, Zinfandel needs heat. The grapes finally ripened and the flavors appeared in early October. We usually harvest in September.

The grapes were picked at sunrise. The fruit was destemmed but not crushed, chilled with dry ice, and cold soaked for 7 days in 2 waffle bins (photos). Two different yeast strains, Lallemand's Barolo (BRL97) and Syrah (SYR), were added to fermentation vessels, intended to capture spiciness, extend the finish, and amplify dark fruit flavors. Fermentation finished in 5 days. The wine was pressed straight into both French and American oak (photos) and aged for 11 months in a mixture of coopers — Demptos, Heinrich, and Damy. 30% of the barrels were new. 8% Petit Sirah was added to the blending tank.

    Production: 70 cases

In 2001, Ray Teldeschi, a renowned grape grower, gave us our first break – access to amazing Dry Creek Zinfandel for our first vintage.

After enjoying "Little Miss Dangerous" and "Caught Red Handed", Ray promoted us to the super old vines – over 120 years old. We are grateful for a business relationship that has evolved into friendship.
